Prince Harry 'must get tone absolutely right' with Netflix show to avoid backlash

Prince Harry has been warned he needs to get the “tone absolutely perfectly right” for his upcoming Netflix documentary on polo to avoid major backlash.

The Duke of Sussex is currently producing a new show centred on his experience as a polo player and will shed light on a sport normally associated with wealth and privilege.

In addition to playing since he was a child, Harry has also participated in polo matches to raise funds for charities he supports – an aspect he is likely to discuss in the new show.

Royal expert Jack Royston warned that “charity alone is not a shield against allegations of privilege”, noting the royal could do well to learn from recent controversies to prevent any criticism.

hE cited close Sussex pal Oprah Winfrey, who sparked a major debate after appealing to the public for funds to help Hawaii residents affected by the devastating wildfires that raged through the archipelago last year.

The expert added: “A lot of people are still struggling in all kinds of ways with all kinds of things, and it was less than a year ago that everyone piled in on Oprah and the Rock over Maui.

“So, it’s probably fair to say doing charity work does not, in and of itself, get you off the hook in the modern world.”

Within a day of Netflix unveiling their new venture with the Duke, Harry joined long-time friend Nacho Figueras to play the Royal Salute Polo Challenge to raise funds for his charity Sentebale.

The royal founded the organisation with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 to raise funds and provide help to youngsters in Lesotho and Botswana.
