Prince Harry in 'painful place' after taking swipes at Princess Kate he 'can't retract'

Prince Harry may find himself feeling regretful following some statements about the Duchess of Cambridge in his memoir, Spare.

This is according to Royal observers, given the recent news that Kate Middleton has cancer.

The Duke of Sussex and Duchess Kate were once very close. That changed when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their Royal duties and shared private information about the Royal family during interviews, in their Netflix documentary, and also in Harry’s memoir.

A Royal commentator has suggested that writing about Kate and now learning of her serious health challenge could put Harry in a “painful place”.

“When you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written stuff that can’t be retracted, that’s quite a painful place to be in,” said Royal expert Tessa Dunlop. “I’m not saying it isn’t.”

Speaking to Us Weekly, Tessa also expressed that Harry and Meghan’s criticisms of the family don’t seem as well-timed now.

After news of the health of King Charles III broke in February, Harry did show support by visiting his father.

Similarly, he and Meghan released a statement offering their best wishes to Kate and her family shortly after her diagnosis.

In their message to Kate, Harry and Meghan conveyed: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

Tessa has said that Harry and Meghan need to be “careful” with their public statements.

She mentioned: “They deliberately criticise the monarchy [and then offer] themselves as an alternative to monarchy. So then when the monarchy is in trouble, we do kind of make a comparison. Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves off as the caring example now?”

She also noted: “They’re certainly going to have to be careful of their timing with any releases so that it doesn’t look opportunistic.”

Another expert on Royal matters shared that Harry might be feeling “full of regret” because his bond with the Princess of Wales went downhill fast.

Harry once said Kate was like the “sister he never had” but now he wishes he could “turn back the clock.”

Duncan Larcombe, who writes about Royal stories, told New! magazine: “Bombshell news like Kate’s puts things into perspective and Harry isn’t immune from being filled with regrets and what-ifs.

“Kate was like the sister Harry never had and he is probably full of regret at how his relationship with her and William has collapsed so spectacularly.”
