Prince Harry hybrid royal role rubbished as insiders say 'no way back' for Duke

Prince Harry has “no way back” into the Royal Family’s working ranks as a hybrid worker, palace insiders have said.

Insiders have claimed the Megxit deal agreed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex means that the couple are barred from re-entering The Firm under such terms.

Sources have said the royals can handle duties without the Prince, who is reportedly weighing the application to become a US citizen, as both King Charles III and Kate, the Princess of Wales, are out of action.

The King’s recent cancer diagnosis has required him to step back from work as he receives treatment, and the Princess is currently recuperating following abdominal surgery.

The two absences have required other royals to step up and fill the void but insiders believe Prince Harry would both be an unnecessary and incongruous addition to the royal rota.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said they believe Prince Harry and Meghan’s 2020 deal prohibits a potential “half in, half out” arrangement.

They said the remaining working royals can pick up the duties shortfall, and that the arrangement wouldn’t make sense given his stateside migration.

The source said: “How could this even work? Is Harry really saying he’d fly back from California to attend an investiture?

“The Queen, Prince William, Princess Anne and Edward and Sophie are more than capable of holding the fort.”

“And what would it mean for Meghan? Are we seriously thinking she could also have a hybrid role?”

Even if it were possible, neither party is reportedly interested in the prospect at present, other insiders have said.

A source from the Royal Family said no offer has been made, and another from the Sussex camp said the Duke is not interested.

They said they believe the Prince would help his family if asked but likely wouldn’t “offer on his own”.

Prince Harry arrived in London early this month on February 7, following the announcement of his father’s cancer diagnosis, on an 11-hour flight from Los Angeles.

He was only briefly in the UK, staying 45 minutes before the King and Queen Camilla left for the Sandringham country state.
