Prince Harry dismisses return to royal duties as he admits move would be 'unsurvivable'

Prince Harry gave a revealing response about the prospect of returning to royal life in a previous interview held last year.

When questioned about him ever returning to royal life on Good Morning America last January, 2023, the Duke of Sussex candidly said the move would be “unsurvivable”.

Harry was skeptical about returning to and rejoining the Royal Family in an official capacity. Speaking to the news outlet he said: “No. I don’t think it is ever going to be possible. Even if there is an agreement, or an arrangement between me and my family, there is that third party that is going to do everything they can to make sure that isn’t possible. Not stopping us going back, but making it unsurvivable.”

Recent reports sparked speculation about King Charles’s youngest son returning to duties, but the terms of his previous interview may prevent such a decision from happening.

The shocking revelation as reported in OK! Magazine was one of many to surface in the interview with US breakfast show Good Morning America, last year.

In that wide-ranging interview, the Duke also spoke about his relationship with Camilla. Speaking to GMA’s Michael Strahan in this morning’s interview, the Duke said: “I have a huge amount of compassion for [Camilla], you know, being the third person within my parents’ marriage.”

The interview was around the time of the release of his tell-all memoir, Spare, which hit the shops on January 10, 2023.

Amid speculation of Harry’s return, Prince Harry’s believes an option to work as a “half in half out” member of the Royal Family, is “still on the cards”, claims a royal commentator.

This is despite the late Queen denying Harry and Meghan the right to opt for this method, before standing down as senior royals in 2020.

The Daily Mirror’s royal editor, Russell Myers said the illness of his family members, both the King’s cancer diagnosis and Princess Kate’s abdominal surgery could “open an avenue” for Harry.

According to the Mirror, insiders close to William reveal that he is ready to shoulder additional responsibilities himself, placing the stability of the monarchy and his father’s well-being at the forefront.

The source said: “Whatever has been discussed between William and the King is private, but it is absolutely and categorically clear that he [William] would not allow Harry to return. He thought it was a bad idea at the time and he’s even more clear now.”

It comes as Prince William is putting his immediate family and their wellbeing above all else as he seeks to protect them from any more conflict with the Sussexes, according to a royal commentator.

William and Prince Harry once had a close bond, but grew gradually further apart after Harry married Meghan Markle and moved to California after stepping down as working royals in 2020.
