Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have landed in Canada after their new website received backlash. The couple took a two-hour trip from Santa Barabra to Vanouver in a gas-guzzling private jet before setting off just 39 minutes later to Victoria on Vancouver Island – a 15 minute trip.
This is where they stayed immediately after leaving the Royal Family in 2020. They are on a three-day trip in Canada tied to next year’s Invictus Games.
This visit comes just days after the couple launched their new website, Sussex.com, which replaced their Archewell site as ‘The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’.
It also features Harry’s “outdated” coat of arms which identifies him as the grandchild of a monarch rather than the son of one as well as using their children’s royal Prince and Princess titles.
Under the terms of an agreement struck with Buckingham Palace, the Sussexes can use their Duke and Duchess titles but cannot use HRH in their commercial endeavours.
Buckingham Palace did not comment but, according to The Mirror, the couple did not consult palace officials before launching the new endeavour and have been called “exploitative”.
Royal historian Hugo Vickers said: “It goes against everything the Sussexes promised they would not do. They are trading on their royal titles and associations in every way you look at it.
“From the royal coat of arms used, to their Sussex titles, to the titles of their children. It doesn’t matter what parameters you judge it on, the man on the street would identify those behind the website as part of the royal family. It is exploitative in the extreme.”
Another backlash the couple recently faced was Prince Harry’s flying trip to London after King Charleses cancer diagnosis.
He spent just 30 minutes with his father at Clarence House before the King left for Sandringham. Harry spent the night in a hotel and left the following day, spending just 24 hours in the UK.
