Prince Harry and Meghan Markle branded 'Montecito muppets' over Christmas silence

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been branded “Montecito muppets” in scathing attack by an ex-royal correspondent. He had used the slogan when referring to their silence over the Christmas period.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have appeared somewhat quiet in recent weeks, with some suspecting it’s come from the fallout following Omid Scobie’s book Endgame. While the couple released their annual Christmas card, they did not issue any messages on social media on December 25.

Speaking to GB News, Charles Rae, former royal correspondent for The Sun, said: “It’s great to have had a Christmas period where we’ve not heard anything from the Montecito muppets. They’ve been quiet ever since the fallout of Omid Scobie’s book Endgame.

“I think it’s still only sold about 40,000 copies worldwide which just goes to show how fed up people are of Harry and Meghan’s constant moaning.

“There’s no question in my mind that they helped contribute to this book and if they didn’t, they authorised people to speak on their behalf.”

Omid Scobie’s book sent shockwaves through the Firm when it was released after a Dutch version appeared to contain the names of the two individuals Harry and Meghan had accused of racism.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the couple claimed a “conversation about how dark Archie’s skin would be” was had.

Though they never named the members of the Royal Family they were referring to, a translated version of Scobie’s book appeared to contain two names.

Many have now suspected this was the accidental publication of a first draft that was not in the final version printed elsewhere.

The couple chose a cheerful photo of them from the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games earlier this year in Düsseldorf.

The photo is against a deep green background while the card reads: “On behalf of the office of Prince Harry & Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archwell Productions and Archwell Foundation, We wish you a very Happy Holiday Season. Thanks for all the support in 2023!”

But it seems like their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet were missing from the card.

The couple used to feature them in previous years, apart from last year and it was one of the very few times the public got a glimpse of them.
