Many mums-to-be find sleeping tricky, with aches in the hips, back and shoulders making restful nights harder to come by. That’s where a pregnancy pillow comes in, offering full-body support to ease pressure and promote better sleep.
Right now, the AS AWESLING Pregnancy Pillow is on sale at Amazon, reduced to £24.68 from £29.98 – a modest yet appreciated £5.30 saving. Measuring 55 inches long, this U-shaped pillow cocoons the body from head to toe, supporting the head, neck, back, hips, legs and belly.
It’s also handy for lounging on the sofa, using as a nursing pillow or even aiding recovering after knee or hip surgery. Made from soft velvet with a removable cover, it’s easy to keep clean, while the cotton filling keeps it firm yet comfortable.
Shoppers can also choose from several colours, including pink and purple. However, it’s worth noting that not every shade is included in the sale.
Of course, there are plenty more options on the market. In a YouTube video, Molly-Mae Hague revealed that she “can’t sleep without” Dunelm’s Teddy V-Shape Cushion (£22). The retailer describes the pillow as providing “luxurious comfort” for people who need extra support.
Those happy to splash extra cash can buy the Silentnight Impress Memory Foam V Shape Pillow for £47.99. As well as the usual benefits, it has a soft-touch quilted cover to add extra comfort and luxury.
Back to Amazon, the AS AWESLING Pregnancy Pillow has had plenty of good reviews. One shopper said: “This product is a god send. Being 29 weeks pregnant now it makes sleeping so much better and helps my back a lot. It has a good shape and keeps its shape too even though I use it often.”
Meanwhile, a second person chimed in: “I have fibromyalgia as well as an autoimmune disorder, I’m in constant pain on high pain medication to help with breakthrough pain, and practically bed bound. I was sceptical at first.. but I have had the most comfortable day I’ve had in a long time.
“The different positions is amazing for me. It’s firm but not overly hard, it soon bounces back to shape. It’s very comfortable between the legs to help with knee, hips and joint pain. It doesn’t make you hot and uncomfortable. I’m so glad I took to chance on buying it, it’s made a huge difference to me being able to sit comfortably.”
However, it isn’t all good news. One disappointed user said: “This does not have enough firmness or thickness, it just feels flat. My wife is not really using this so we ended up buying another one.”
On a more positive note, this pregnancy pillow fan piped up: “I had just had gallbladder surgery and was advised to buy one the day before the procedure. It arrived in perfect time for when I came home and because I’m a front/side sleeper I needed something to keep me stable. This was perfect. Comfortable, sturdy yet soft and the size is spot on.”
