Horticulture experts explain that many Hydrangea subspecies should not be pruned in February other than to remove dead or damanged wood.
Otherwise, the gardening experts advise that the flower should only be pruned after it blooms.
They explain that, for example, hydrangea paniculata can be pruned by 1/3, as needed, where as hydrangea arboresens can be pruned up to 10”.
