In a surprising twist on the traditional breakfast, one woman has revealed her ingenious method to supercharge your porridge for just 1p. Carla, a TikTok user known for her thrifty food tips, has caused quite a stir with her latest culinary creation.

Brandishing a box of Yorkshire Tea, she said: “If you love tea and you’ve not tried putting your tea bag in your porridge, you really must try it.” Carla’s penchant for Yorkshire Tea’s caramelised biscuit flavour shines through as she recommends it for this quirky porridge upgrade reports MirrorOnline. “These are my ultimate favourite, but you can use any tea bag,” she explained.

Demonstrating her straightforward approach, Carla combines oats, a tea bag, sweetener, and water in a bowl, allowing the tea to infuse during microwaving.

She elaborated: “You then just microwave this for two to three minutes and the tea will kind of exude itself into your porridge.”

After zapping it in the microwave, Carla enhances her dish with chopped strawberries and whey powder for added protein, keeping the additions simple so as not to overshadow the tea’s essence. She tops off the porridge with a scattering of soya crispies and pistachios for crunch.

However, Carla did concede one minor drawback: “Obviously the gross bit is removing the tea bag.”

“I really recommend this though – it’s like a way of getting a double-dose of caffeine in the morning,” she said. “I’m imagining coffee lovers could do the same thing with coffee in their porridge, but think of all the possibilities here.”

Concluding her taste experiment, Carla floated the idea of Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea-infused porridge, saying: “Has anyone tried peppermint tea porridge? Would that work? Is that a different vibe? Green tea porridge perhaps?”

Carla’s groundbreaking breakfast invention took TikTok by storm, racking up over 200,000 views in just four days, and sparking an avalanche of comments.

One impressed TikTok user responded: “Tea-infused porridge? Brilliant idea! How about trying a matcha porridge next?”

Another enquired: “I love these tea bags so will try this! I recommend the Tesco vanilla chai ones too,” prompting Carla to answer, “I’ve never tried chai and would be nervous to waste a whole box. I need to find someone who has it and ‘borrow’ it!”

A third commentator praised: “Coffee porridge is so underrated, add instant coffee to the oats and it’s 10/10.”

Recounting their own experience, a fourth porridge enthusiast said: “I had some Earl Grey porridge in a hotel in Canada and it’s one of my favourite meals ever so this is right up my street.”

Meanwhile, a fifth individual commentedt: “This may be life changing information.”

Elsewhere, another said: “I like really strong tea so I usually just rip up the teabag and put the tea leaves straight in my oats.”

Carla replied: “Interesting! I don’t like tea leaf texture though.”
