POLL: What should Nigel Farage do next as he drops new comeback hint? Vote here

Nigel Farage teased a potential return to frontline politics in a speech at his 60th birthday party last night.

The former Ukip leader, who is currently a GB News presenter, said options for his future include going to America if Donald Trump wins the race for the White House or making a sensational comeback in British politics.

He told guests at the London bash that he thought his milestone birthday may be the “right moment” to make a highly-anticipated announcement.

But he then joked “why spoil a lovely booze up” and insisted he was still making up his mind.

In his speech, Mr Farage said: “I could go to America because a very good friend of mine is about to become the 47th president of the US.

“America is very tempting because they rather like Brits that speak proper English because they don’t. I could get jobs there and make loads of money.

“Or I guess the other alternative is I could throw it all away, start again, throw myself back into the frontline of British politics. These are all options.

“I could throw myself back into financial penury, constant attack by the media, social media, no thanks for anything I do, even when I stand down in favour of 320 candidates from what was once known as the Conservative Party but now I think the social democrat party might suit rather better, and that’s if we’re being polite.

“I thought maybe on my 60th birthday it would be a good opportunity to make a big announcement.

“Well maybe it was the right moment to do it, but then I realised why spoil a lovely booze up, why spoil a fun evening, why spoil the comedy, the music, the satire and the dancing which is to come.

“So I on this 60th birthday have to tell you that I’ve genuinely not yet made up my mind. But I’m beginning to form in my mind what I think the right thing to do is.”

Mr Farage, who is honorary president of Reform UK, has been at the centre of ongoing speculation over whether he will return to politics.

The rebranded Brexit Party, currently led by businessman Richard Tice, is polling at up to 16% nationally.

Pollsters have said the insurgent party, which secured its first MP with Lee Anderson’s defection last month, would be boosted if Mr Farage returns.

But Mr Farage has previously admitted he was put off after Ukip won four million votes at the 2015 general election but no seats due to the challenges of the first past the post electoral system.
