Russian strikes on Ukraine overnight have killed more than a dozen people and damaged a British Council building in Kyiv. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said Russian President Vladimir Putin was “sabotaging” hopes of peace.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy said Putin’s strikes killed civilians, destroyed homes and damaged buildings. The Foreign Office summoned the Russian Ambassador Andrei Kelin in the wake of the attacks. Mr Lammy has said: “The killing and destruction must stop.” The British Council has operated in Ukraine for 30 years and has been helping to train Ukrainian teachers in how to support traumatised children.

Four children are among the confirmed dead so far, with numbers expected to rise as rescue teams search for people trapped under rubble.
The European Union delegation building in Kyiv was also damaged but staff were not harmed, according to EU president Ursula von der Leyen.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said it carried out a strike against military air bases and companies “within Ukraine’s military-industrial complex” using long-range weapons.
The ministry said it shot down 102 Ukrainian drones overnight, mostly in the country’s south-west. Russia fired over 600 drones and 30 missiles on Ukraine last night.
US President Donald Trump has said he hopes to broker a meeting between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine after he met Putin in Alaska two weeks ago and Mr Zelensky days later in Washington.
