POLL: Should Lady Louise and James Earl of Wessex take on royal duties?

Lady Louise Windsor, 20, and her 16-year-old brother James, Earl of Wessex, have been tipped for future positions working in the Royal Family.

The children of Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh are still at university and school respectively, however with the number of working royals shrinking Louise and James could be an attractive option for King Charles.

Edward and Sophie have become indispensable to the King as he takes a back seat during his cancer treatment, as two of the younger working members of the Firm.

Louise and James could therefore become the new younger face of the monarchy, even though Charles has made clear his desire for a more slimmed-down institution.

Yet there are doubts over whether this would be a suitable career path for them or if they would prefer to choose a different way of life.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The probability is that Lady Louise will be working for a living as her mother the Duchess of Edinburgh once anticipated.”

Meanwhile former royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK! magazine about James’s potential future: “I think we can expect James to follow his ambitions and not necessarily take the traditional royal route of military service. He will probably try for university and then work out a career path.

“It’s highly unlikely that James will ever use his HRH and he will not inherit the Dukedom of Edinburgh. That all guarantees him a sense of freedom that royalty ‘with all the bells on’ makes very difficult.”
