Four people were killed, including a suspect police described as an active shooter, after an officer-involved shooting Monday in Farmington, New Mexico. Police said there were multiple civilian victims, with at least three people killed.
Police provided few initial details to the public. Officials said in a Facebook post that multiple officers from the Farmington Police Department were involved in the shooting. They said a suspect was confronted and killed. The suspect was not named. Police said there were no other known threats.
An officer from the Farmington Police Department and one from New Mexico State Police were shot. They were being treated at the San Juan Regional Medical Center for injuries and were in stable condition.
Officers from the Farmington Police Department, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the New Mexico State Police were investigating the shooting.
The shooting led to “preventative lockdowns” of the Farmington Municipal Schools at the request of police, the school district said. The lockdowns were lifted early Monday afternoon.
Farmington is about 200 miles north of Albuquerque.
