Police called to 'man with large knife' – but instead was a Harry Potter fan with a wand

Armed police swarmed a hotel after reports of a man carrying a large knife – but instead it turned out to be a Harry Potter fan with a wand.

Firearms officers descended on the venue in Enderby, in Leicestershire, on Sunday (February 11) after a witness reported seeing a man brandishing a knife near the hotel’s lifts.

But before you could say expelliarmus, police arrived they found it wasn’t a knife, but a Harry Potter wand being waved about by a would-be wizard.

Leicestershire Police revealed the hilarious gaffe on a police Facebook page quipping “there was no sign of Voldemort”.

PC Ward, from Blaby Police, wrote: “I attended a large hotel in Enderby this morning with a number of firearms officers, following a report of a male inside near the lifts carrying ‘a large knife’. Following enquiries we quickly established that it was a Harry Potter fan with a wand.

“Thankfully no harm was caused to any resident and there was no sign of ‘Voldemort’.”

Facebookers were in stitches after reading about the magic mix up.

One said: “Are you being Sirius” in a reference to Harry’s godfather Sirius Black.

“Expecto Patrol-man!” said another – a play on the words of the powerful Patronus Charm.

Police did not reveal which hotel the incident happened at.

Meanwhile Harry Potter’s Emma Watson might have needed a bit of magic help after her car was reportedly impounded by police when she left her £30,000 Audi parked outside a car park entrance in Stratford-upon-Avon.

It is reported that the Hermione Granger actress, 33, failed to see the “no parking” sign before leaving her vehicle and heading into a nearby pub.

A pizza restaurant manager claims they were trapped inside the car park for three-and-a-half hours, after finishing a 12-hour shift. After failing to find the blue Audi’s owner, the manager called the police who sent a truck to tow the car.

The manager told MailOnline: “I went into every single restaurant in the area asking if anyone owned the car. No one admitted that it was their car so I was forced to call the police so they would move the car and I could get out.”
