Pilot’s wife shares her top two neck pillows for long flights | Travel News | Travel

Many travellers swear by a neck pillow on planes, particularly for those gruelling long journeys.

This essential travel item offers support to the head, neck, and shoulders, ensuring comfort while seated upright during a flight. It also helps passengers to get some sleep mid-flight and helps reduce any discomfort in their head or neck.

Economy class flyers are all too familiar with the lack of space and comfort, as seats don’t recline into flat beds like those in business or first class. Bearing this in mind, holidaymakers seek alternative methods to enhance their comfort levels.

Laurie, a pilot’s wife who is known for her travel advice on Instagram, recently posted her top picks for long-haul flight essentials available on Amazon. She highlights two specific neck pillows that she recommends for lengthy flights.

1. Cabeau neck pillow

At the top of Laurie’s list for long-haul necessities is the Cabeau neck pillow, which she particularly suggests for those with “long necks”. In her Instagram post’s caption, she details: “The velcro straps loop around your headrest so your neck does not fall forward.”

Cabeau is celebrated for its selection of award-winning neck pillows crafted for optimal comfort. These pillows are available on Amazon, with prices ranging from £23.20 to £46, depending on the model.

2. Neck pillow by Trtl

The travel guru from Houston, Texas, swears by the Trtl Travel Pillow, a top-seller renowned for its hypoallergenic fabric that’s designed to create a hammock-like support. Trtl proudly claims on its website their pillow is “scientifically proven to help you drift off anywhere, anytime.”

You can snag the Trtl Travel Pillow on Amazon for £60.

3. Heat-monitoring power bank

Laurie has a trusty power bank that keeps tabs on temperature while charging her phone mid-flight. Equipped with thermistors, these power banks check the regularly battery’s heat levels and will shut down the circuit if it gets too hot, preventing overheating and averting potential hazards.

Given that phones and other gadgets are powered by lithium-ion batteries which pose a fire risk when overheated or damaged, a heat-monitoring power bank could be seen as an essential safety measure on planes.

4. Set of three pouches

For organised packing, Laurie suggests bringing along a trio of pouches in your hand luggage. She uses the largest one for items she’ll need during the flight.

These handy travel pouch sets are readily available online, including a variety on Amazon to suit different budgets.

5. Pill organiser

On long flights, this seasoned traveller always carries a pill organiser to keep her medication sorted. She stocks it with AM and PM doses, ensuring she’s prepared for the duration of the flight.

Airlines frequently recommend passengers to carry medication in their hand luggage, particularly if needed during flights.

6. AirPods cord

Lots of passengers use AirPods to listen to music during flights, but given their wireless nature, they can easily fall and get lost, especially on a dimly lit plane. Laurie uses a cord to keep her AirPods together in case one slips out of her ear.

A magnetic AirPods strap is available on Amazon for £5.
