Piers Morgan's disbelief as 'interim King' Harry and Meghan 'step up' after Kate's surgery

Piers Morgan was mortified at the prospect of Prince Harry being an “interim king”.

Speaking on his show Uncensored on Wednesday night, the presenter was joined by TalkTV’s royal editor Sarah Houston who explained other royal members may have to step in and help out in the meantime, most notably Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

It comes after Kate, the Princess of Wales, was admitted to The London Clinic hospital on Tuesday for planned abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace has announced.

The news came just an hour before it was revealed King Charles will also attend hospital next week to be treated for an enlarged prostate, Buckingham Palace said.

Piers quizzed: “Where does this leave us if King Charles is unconscious and William is looking after his kids do we start heading down the list of people if there is some duty the monarch has to perform?

“What actually happens here? We’re kind of in uncharted territory.”

TalkTV’s royal editor Sarah Houston explained there is a procedure in place “should a monarch be incapacitated due to ill health and for a short period”.

She said: “If the King does have to go under a general anaesthetic and is unconscious then the Councellors of State will be called upon should they be needed.

“The list of the councellors is the monarch’s spouse, so Camilla, and the next four in line to the throne.”
