Petrol owners can save money every time with fuel saving tip shared by top mechanic

Petrol drivers can save money every time they top up fuel by making a simple decision, says leading mechanic Scotty Kilmer.

According to the expert, motorists should not top up with premium grade fuel as it is simply a “waste of money”.

Mr Kilmer stressed that new modern vehicles will all “run perfectly” on the cheaper compound, saving motorists pennies at the fuel pump.

The expert mechanic even stressed that some cars may even run better while using the cheaper petrol in a major revelation.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Scotty said: “Today I’m going to tell you why it’s a waste of money putting premium gas in a normal modern car.

“Now the idea about premium gas is that it can take more pressure before it explodes.

But with modern engines having better designs, lower compression and computer controls, they will all run perfectly fine on regular gasoline.

“Now if you take a modern car like a Mustang with a four-cylinder ecoboost they will run perfectly fine on regular gas. But to get the full 300+ horsepower, you have to use premium gas.

“But if you have a modern car that’s made to regular gas, if you put premium gas in it might actually run worse because it’s set up to run on gasoline that explodes under lower pressures.

“So just because premium gas costs more doesn’t mean it’s better for your car.”

KwikFit said there were “undoubtedly benefits” to using premium fuel with more power delivered to the engine. These compounds can also include cleaning additives that help keep engines in top condition.

Experts at webuyanycar claim running premium petrol can help “reduce friction” which will result in cleaner engine components and more efficient performance.

However, they made it clear that there were still many disadvantages to running the compound.

They commented: “The only cars that really need premium petrol are high-performance vehicles. There isn’t any physical proof or research to show the benefits of premium petrol, apart from the claims made by those who produce them.

“Premium fuel also costs considerably more than standard petrol, so you’ll find yourself more out of pocket when filling up.”

According to RAC Fuel Watch, Super Unleaded petrol currently stands at a staggering 155.83p per litre. This is a whopping 15 pence more than regular unleaded which is currently priced at 140.03p across the UK.

The breakdown group accepted that premium fuel makes “no discernible difference” and could see road users paying out more for no reason.
