NBCUniversal is raising the monthly price for streaming service Peacock for the first time since it launched in 2020.
Starting Tuesday, the company will begin notifying existing customers their rates will increase on August 17. The price change is effective immediately for new customers.
Peacock Premium’s price increased $1 per month to $5.99, while the price of Peacock Premium Plus increased $2 per month to $11.99.
The company said in a news release that the change will allow Peacock to “continue to invest in the best user experience and the highest-quality content while remaining competitive in the marketplace.”
The streaming platform offers a variety of TV shows, movies, live broadcasts and other entertainment programming. Popular series available on Peacock include “The Office,” “Yellowstone” and several NBC and Bravo shows that become available on Peacock the day after they are broadcast on cable.
The move comes on the heels of other streaming platforms raising prices, like YouTube TV and Max (formerly known as HBO Max).

How much does YouTube TV cost?
YouTube TV announced in March it was raising its monthly rate from $64.99 to $72.99.
“As content costs have risen and we continue to invest in the quality of our service, we are updating our price to keep bringing you the best possible service,” the company said in an email sent to its subscribers.
How much does Paramount+ cost?
Paramount Global also announced in February it would be raising the monthly subscription rate for Paramount+ due to its combination with Showtime.
With the increase, the price of the Paramount+ Premium tier (with Showtime) jumped from $9.99 a month to $11.99 a month.
The Essential tier (without Showtime) increased from $4.99 a month to $5.99 a month.

How much does Max cost?
The streaming service formerly known as HBO Max relaunched as Max in May on the heels of the 2022 merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery. The platform combines programming from both HBO Max and Discovery+.
Max offers a variety of packages, including an Ad-Lite tier for $9.99 a month, an Ad-Free tier for $15.99 a month, and an Ultimate Ad-Free tier for $19.99 a month.
Discovery+ is still available to subscribe to separately, but a standalone version of HBO Max without the Discovery content is not available.
Discovery+ costs $4.99 a month with ads, or $6.99 a month ad-free.
How much do Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ cost?
In December 2022, the Walt Disney Company also announced it was raising the monthly rate for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+.
A Disney+ plan without ads went from $7.99 a month to $10.99 a month, while a basic plan with ads launched in December at $7.99 a month.
The monthly rate for the ad-free premium plan for Hulu rose $2 to $14.99 in October, while the plan with ads jumped from $6.99 to $7.99.
ESPN+’s monthly rate jumped to $9.99 a month in August.
