Patriotic Rishi Sunak revives St George's Day tradition

Patriotic Rishi Sunak restored St George’s day celebrations in Downing Street with the first party to mark England’s national day in more than a decade.

The Prime Minister, who posed for pictures with Tory MPs alongside the English flag, had the English flag raised over No 10 before he jetted off to Europe to announce more support for Ukraine.

Downing Street officials said Mr Sunak channelled the spirit of St George by announcing the biggest aid package for Kyiv to help it defeat the Russians.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “We will be celebrating it here in No 10 with the St George’s flag flying above Downing Street.

“The Prime Minister will be marking St George’s Day in Poland where, in the spirit of St George, we have announced the largest ever military aid package for Ukraine to help it defend itself against Russia’s barbaric invasion.”

The spokeswoman said the Prime Minister wished everyone a happy St George’s Day.

It comes after Tory MP Andrew Rosindelln warned the English identity is under attack from the left.

He called for a week-long celebration of St George as well as a bank holiday to mark the feast day of England’s patron saint.

It is held on April 23 to mark the death of the Christian martyr 303 AD.
