Older drivers issued DVLA warning to take action or face expensive consequences

In addition, the charity highlighted that drivers over the age of 70 also have to renew their licence every three years.

So long as motorists still have a valid licence, motorists are still able to get behind the wheel whilst their application is being processed.

However, Age UK noted that a number of factors could prevent drivers from returning to the road, including medical conditions that could impair their ability on the road or driving disqualifications.

Whilst the DVLA does not charge motorists over 70 years old for renewing their licence, driving without a licence could lead to expensive consequences.

No matter how old a motorist is, they can be faced with a £1,000 fine and six points on their licence for not having a valid driving licence.

In some cases, the driver could be taken to court and receive a driving ban and even time in prison for the offence.
