It is understood that Nicola Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell has resigned his SNP membership. It comes as he has been charged in connection with embezzlement of party funds.
An SNP spokesperson said the development was a “shock” but would not comment further.
The spokesperson said: “While this development will come as a shock, the police investigation remains ongoing and it would, therefore, be inappropriate to make any comment.”
