Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall has been dealt another injury setback, with the club now awaiting an update on when the defender will be able to return. Hall, who came on as a substitute against Union SG in Belgium in midweek, suffered a hamstring injury which ruled him out of the clash with Nottingham Forest.
The left-back is set for a scan next week and until he consults with a specialist, Newcastle are unable to provide a timeline for his recovery. The ex-Chelsea man sustained an ankle injury last season during a match against Liverpool, causing him to miss a significant portion of the season, including the Carabao Cup final victory over the Reds.
When quizzed about Hall at his press conference last week, Howe stated: “Lewis had just a couple of little things in his body where he’s not felt 100 per cent right. So we’ve got to try and get him back where he’s robust enough to just be where he was before his injury.
“He was playing regularly then, and he looked physically great at that moment. But sometimes we forget how young he is, and there is a thought that we have to look after him.”
Reflecting on his prospects for this season, hopefully with his injury troubles behind him, Hall said: “There are so many things to look forward to, like Champions League, international stuff hopefully, and just the fact that I’ve not played in so long.
“It’s hard to explain – I felt so much support from people at the club, but in a sense you almost feel like sometimes you get forgotten about a little bit, even though I only missed 11 league games.”
However, this new injury setback raises questions about his absence and a potential extended lay-off could be looming.
