Snow is on the way to the UK this March, according to the latest maps, and Brits should brace for chilly conditions. From March 12, snow could hit some parts of the UK. At midnight, maps show snow will fall over Cumbria and across some parts of Scotland.
It is also forecast to snow in parts of the East Midlands and along the east coast of England. By 6am on Friday, March 14, snow will be confined to Scotland with none due to fall in England.
Some parts of Scotland could see up to 2.5cm of snowfall per hour, with others 1cm or less.
England will see rain instead, but mostly in the north.
Cumbria, Newcastle and the Lake District will see up to 3mm or rainfall per hour.
Most of the Midlands, south and Wales will escape the rain apart from London, Plymouth, Gloucester and Swindon.
By March 15, at midnight, snow will again be confined to Scotland with up to 0.2cm per hour due to fall mostly in the north of the country.
As for England, up to 5mm of rain will fall around London, along the south coast and across the midlands from Nottingham to Birmingham.
The east of England will also be covered by rainfall.
A forecast by the Met Office from March 8 to 17 says: “Likely mild at the start of this period and feeling warm in any sunny spells.
“However, conditions will be fairly changeable with a chance of showers or longer spells of rain across all areas, these more likely, at least at first, in the west.”
The Met Office adds that how the weather will evolve is unclear but that there is an increased chance pressure will be more dominant from the north.
It continues: “This would result in a good deal of dry weather but also lead to a downturn in temperatures with a low chance of a colder spell and wintry hazards.
“Low confidence by the end of the period but with an increasing chance of milder but more unsettled conditions developing again.”
