Netflix CEO breaks silence on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after £80m deal rumours

The CEO of Netflix has finally broken his silence months after rumours emerged that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s deal had fallen through.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed a multi-year deal with the streamer that has, so far, produced three series – the popular Harry & Meghan documentary about their lives, the voiced-over Live to Lead, and Prince Harry’s Heart of Invictus.

The deal reportedly cost Netflix $100million (£80million) when it was signed in 2020, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Speculation has recently suggested the deal is in jeopardy, but Netflix co-chief Ted Sarandos has said he is keen to keep them producing.

In a recent interview, he said audiences “devour everything about them”, especially Britons.

He told US-based business magazine Forbes that the couple are “great at getting attention”.

“The documentary we did on them [Harry and Meghan] is still one of our most-watched documentaries of all time on Netflix and huge, particularly in the UK, where people just devour everything about them.

“They’re controversial, but that’s usually a good thing.”

Mr Sarandos added: “You may love them or hate them, but you’re watching.

“And I do think that they are also going to be very strong storytellers, with great exposure to media in terms of what people want to talk about, what they think about, and they’re great at getting attention.”
