NCIS Hawaii’s Vanessa Lachey shares tearful ‘Sweet Jane’ video ahead of final ever episode

NCIS Hawaii’s Vanessa Lachey wiped away tears while filming a goodbye message to the CBS series and her character, Agent Jane Tennant.

At the start of 2021, fans of the police procedural franchise were excited to learn that an NCIS set on the beautiful island state was going to make its way into production.

Three years on and viewers have loved watching NCIS Hawaii’s story unfold, from the stunning scenery and gripping plots, to the “Kacy” [Kate Whistler and Lucy Tara) romance.

So many were taken aback when, at the end of last month, it was announced that the drama would be no more, with no season four on the horizon.

According to network executives, the decision to axe NCIS Hawaii came to a “combination of cost, ratings and cohesion across the CBS schedule”.

What makes the end even harder to accept is the fact the show’s season three finale, which airs on Monday, May 6, will be the last ever episode.

As news of its cancellation has only recently come out, this instalment entitled Divided We Conquer, wasn’t written as a final goodbye, although it’s been confirmed it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, thankfully.

NCIS Hawaii was the first female-led NCIS series with Agent Jane Tennant portrayed by actress Vanesa Lachey.

Following the disappointing update, she shared an emotional message on Instagram, alongside a video of her staring out at sea in Hawaii.

With Sweet Jane by Cowboy Junkies playing in the background, Lachey wrote: “Forever your Sweet Jane…This was the same spot where I filmed episode one.

“I sat here at 2am on June 2021 and stared into the ocean. I asked her to protect me, my family, my crew and our show.

“I told her we will do all we can to protect the grace and integrity of Hawai’i while also sharing her Beauty with the world.

“As I sat here today, knowing our show is over, I turned to her again… what do we do now….(please protect us all) She answered with ease.

“Just as the air hits the water & the water hits the land, the waves connect to the shore, some with a huge impact, then… it goes back out.

“You see… we aren’t meant to be here forever, we are on borrowed time. We appreciate what was given to us for our use, we nurture it and then we leave it better for the next dreamer.”

“I’m wishing for my crew and my cast that we all remember the Beauty of what we had…we will spread this Aloha in every direction we go.

“I wish we had more time, I’m sorry we don’t. I wish we had a proper good-bye, I’m sorry we didn’t.

“I know we ALL are connected deeper than any TV show.

“I will go to the ends of the earth for my cast & crew! If you come across ANY of them…hire them! You won’t be disappointed. Salt of the earth people!

“In Hawai’i we don’t say ‘Good-Bye’, we say ‘A Hui Hou’ it means ‘until we meet again’. To you all & especially the beloved fans… A Hui Hou. Love Always, Your Sweet Jane”

Fans have been fighting for the drama’s status to be renewed with a petition launched and signed by more than 25,000.

As of yet though, it still seems that NCIS Hawaii will be done for good following the series finale.

NCIS Hawaii season three concludes on Monday, May 6, on CBS.
