Natural beauty store essential can strengthen and 'help stimulate hair growth' in winter

A cold snap has finally arrived in the UK and while it may be better than rain, it can wreak havoc with our skin and hair.

Cold weather can cause even the most lustrous locks to turn dry and dull. As temperatures drop, the air gets drier which can cause hair to lose moisture.

Another common problem people suffer from in the winter is maintaining hair growth.

Shark Beauty analysed search volume data to reveal what hair problems people suffer with the most in the winter and “how to grow hair quickly” had almost 10,000 monthly Google searches which usually increases in January.

It’s crucial that we take good care of our hair and give it the attention it needs throughout the colder, drier winter months.

Rather than booking another salon visit, some experts have suggested using rosemary oil.

The rosemary oil hair growth trend skyrocketed on TikTok last year and has remained popular for treating certain hair and scalp conditions.

Rosemary is known for being anti-inflammatory and for containing antioxidant and antimicrobial properties which makes it a powerful hair and skin ingredient.

Dr Marisa Garshick, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, told CNN rosemary oil can help “strengthen” hair and “reduce damage and breakage”.

She added: “Additionally, some studies have shown that rosemary oil can help to boost hair growth; it is thought to help improve circulation in the scalp, which, by increasing blood flow, may help to stimulate hair growth.”

Board-certified cosmetic dermatologist Dr Michele Green from New York City agreed, stating that rosemary’s capacity to enhance circulation may enable the delivery of additional oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles and scalp, which are “necessary for hair growth”.

When using rosemary oil, make sure to leave it on for a few hours or overnight.

It can also be mixed into shampoo, scalp treatments or hair creams so it can be used in your daily hair routine.

If you’re planning to just use the oil, make sure to dilute it with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or argan oil before applying it.

Rosemary oil can be bought online and from local beauty stores.

Mielle Rosemary Mint Scalp and Hair Oil cost £8.99 from Amazon, Nature Spell Rosemary Oil For Hair & Skin costs £7.99 from Superdrug and Weleda Rosemary Revitalising Hair Tonic costs £13.95 from Holland & Barrett.
