Narrow home half the width of London bus that's worth an insane £1.1m

A slim home, no wider than half a London bus and valued at over £1m, has been removed from the market due to lack of interest.

Just five feet wide, was listed for sale by its owner in 2020 with an asking price of £950,000, which went up to its most recent worth of £1.1m, according to MyLondon in 2021.

Despite extensive coverage in both UK and international media, and plenty of social media buzz, the house remained unsold for over a year and has now been completely withdrawn from the market.

The two-bedroom property, located in Shepherds Bush, last changed hands in 2006 for £488,500. Since then, the value of this slender residence has reportedly doubled, but no one seems willing to meet the asking price.

Converted from an old hat shop, the house spans five floors and even boasts a rooftop terrace and garden. Its longest room measures 24ft, while the widest part of the house barely exceeds six-foot.

A sluggish buyers’ market in the UK, particularly in London due to Covid restrictions and Brexit fallout deterring foreign investors, was deemed a factor in the lack of interest three years ago. However, the more likely reason is its unusual width and cramped appearance.

It’s uncommon to see a family or elderly person living in such a confined space with five flights of stairs to navigate.

The slim building is certainly a sight to behold, but it needs a very particular buyer.

Social media comments when the property first went on sale might explain why it’s had trouble finding a new owner.

“If I had a million I’d buy a bigger house,” one person remarked.

Another declared: “Would live there if you paid me.”

A third compared it to a scene from Harry Potter, saying: “Reminds me of something from Harry Potter, the shrinking night bus perhaps?”

It was said that the owner, who works as a lawyer, wanted to sell up and move overseas. But it seems they might be staying in the UK for a while longer.
