Muslim leaders have raged at a school prayer ban as groups all made the same complaint about the ruling.
The leaders criticised the decision to uphold a ban on prayer rituals at a London school, blasting a minister’s comments on the issue as “divisive”.
But a judge concluded the ban did not interfere with the student’s rights and was “proportionate” amid the school’s aim to promote inclusivity and social cohesion.
Imam Ajmal Masroor has since said the High Court ruling showed a “fundamental misunderstanding” of what it means to be a Muslim.
The faith leader, who is based in the capital, said he would urge the student’s family to appeal against the judgment “so that we can get a more nuanced ruling on this”.
