Mum’s ‘ridiculously better’ method for fluffy rice shows we’ve all been cooking it wrong

It has often been hotly debated whether rice should be boiled or steamed, but it turns out there is an even better way to cook it.

Most people may feel confident that the best way to cook rice is in a pot on the stove, but it is actually easier and more delicious to bake it in the oven.

Kelley (@kelleyoz) is a cook and mum who posts her recipes on social media and discovered that placing rice in an oven dish makes the rice even fluffier.

In a video on TikTok, Kelley said: “This is going to blow your minds! I have always cooked rice the same way in a pot…but now!”

Kelley simply added equal parts rice and water to an oven dish but also added a little knob of butter and seasoned it with some salt as well.

However, some commentators claimed that you can improve upon this rice-baking cooking technique by adding a few more simple ingredients to the dish.

Kelley made a follow-up video to her popular rice method. She said: “So after all of the reviews on my rice I decided to redo it.”

Instead of using simply water, Kelley decided to use chicken stock and said the ratio should be two parts rice to one part chicken stock.

She then added more seasoning to her dish. Kelley said: “I then added salt, pepper, thyme, red chilli flakes and a little onion powder.”

Kelley once again stirred the rice, covered it in tin foil but this time cooked it at 200C for 45 minutes, and said her rice turned out even better.

She said: “After it was in there, I took it out, let it sit for five minutes then forked it…and it was delicious!”
