But she was accused of having “quite the brass neck” in her weekend bid to garner sympathy.
And Conservative peer Baroness Altmann demanded Baroness Mone apologise to Mr Sunak, saying: “I’m gobsmacked. She has admitted not telling the truth. Why would she criticise the PM?”
The National Crime Agency is probing PPE Medpro, the firm Lady Mone’s husband Doug Barrowman was involved with, after Covid deals soured.
Earlier yesterday Mr Sunak said: “The Government takes these things incredibly seriously, which is why we’re pursuing legal action against the company.
“That’s how seriously I take it and the Government takes it.” Baroness Mone tweeted: “What is Rishi Sunak talking about? I was honest with the Cabinet Office, the Government and the NHS in my dealings with them. They all knew about my involvement.”
She later posted: “Does Rishi Sunak stand to profit from the Moderna Covid vaccine during the pandemic? He might want to take that ‘incredibly seriously’ before pointing fingers to save his own skin!” Moderna is reportedly one of the investments held by the hedge fund Mr Sunak co-founded before becoming an MP.
At the weekend Lady Mone said her life was “destroyed” by allegations about her husband’s medical supply firm, even though “we’ve only done one thing, which was lie to the press to say we weren’t involved”.
But last night a former government minister said: “Mone has quite the brass neck to expect sympathy. Her behaviour during theAgency is investigating.”
Lady Mone admitted to lying about her links to the firm which supplied millions of pounds worth of personal protective equipment to the Government.
Having previously denied gaining from the contracts, Lady Mone then admitted she and her children were beneficiaries.
