Moment furious commuter takes on 'fare-dodger': 'Sick of people'

A cyclist launched into a furious rant on the London underground after accusing a man of trying to dodge the ticket fare.

In the clip, which quickly went viral, the cyclist is recording from a camera that appears to be affixed to his helmet – when after heading through the ticket barriers, he turns to see a man following closely behind. The cyclist, who goes by “James Bikelover” on X – formerly Twitter, immediately knocked the man back with his bike and accused him of trying to get through without paying.

Turning to face the man, he says: “No you use your ticket thank you, this is my ticket. I’m not paying for you as well.”

As the accused man tries to protest and tell him not to hit him with his bike, James continued: “Don’t try and jump a f****ing ride off me. I paid my ticket, you pay yours.”

When the man responded “don’t hit like that,” James continued: “Why? I was simply standing in my space because I’ve paid for a f***ing ticket and you haven’t, so f*** off.”

The man showed him his ticket, to which the cyclist told him to use it himself. Sharing the video to X, he added: “This mornings fare dodging thief at East Croydon got it both barrels from me today. Sick of people trying to jump a free ride off me virtually EVERY time I travel there. People were jumping through when I arrived and when I left.”

While some commenters agreed with James’ view, several also accused him of being “on his high horse” and “overreacting”. “He’s clearly got a ticket in his hand man he’s just trying to save like three seconds,” said one, to which James replied: “Why would anyone squeeze past a barrier with another traveller if they have a valid ticket?”

Another added: “You videoed yourself swearing and shouting abuse at another passenger then posted it on Twitter to show you’re the good guy?” to which several commenters claimed James was the “good guy” in the situation.
