This is the insane moment an angry customer reportedly set a cafe on fire after he couldn’t get mayonnaise with his sandwich. Hellmann’s has pledged to cover the cost of the alleged arson attack on Cafetería Las Postas near Seville, Spain, in August.

Hellmann’s said in a post on Instagram: “Cafetería Las Postas, we’re sorry we weren’t there. From now on, you can count on us.” The mayonnaise giant stepped in with an offer to pay for the damage to the eatery and make sure supplies don’t run out again. The company added: “From now on, you’ll never run out of mayonnaise for your sandwiches.”

Cafetería Las Postas owner José Antonio Caballero alleged the disgruntled customer went to a fuel station 20 metres away, filled a bottle with petrol, returned to the eatery and demanded the condiment again.

When he was told there was “no mayonnaise, no ketchup” for a second time, he reportedly doused the counter with petrol and set it alight, according to Spanish daily, El Economista.

Mr Caballero told the publication: “Imagine the fire that started – there were children in front of him, people spending the afternoon – it was tremendous.”

The damage is reported to have been between £6,100 and £8,700 (€7,000 to €10,000). While none of the other customers or staff were injured, the alleged arsonist suffered burns.

He was restrained by bystanders and arrested by the police. The man was taken into custody and denied bail, according to local media.

Instagram users hailed Hellmann’s offer, describing it as a good initiative on the company’s part.

One user, responding to the Insta post, said: “What a nice touch! Congratulations to your marketing department.”

Another apparently enthusiastic fan of the company’s condiment gushed: “Thank you so much! More companies like this (should be) helping the weak.

“It’s the best mayonnaise, and now with this you’ve crowned yourselves. Great, and a salad without Hellmann’s isn’t a salad.”

A second Insta-user wrote: “I don’t like mayonnaise, but you’ve won my heart.”
