Mix one vegetable with chocolate to make ‘delicious’ cake

A woman has shown how you can make a cake by just mixing one vegetable with chocolate.

Chocolate cake is a beloved dessert among adults and children for its rich, indulgent flavour. However, it isn’t the healthiest or simplest to make as it usually requires various ingredients, like butter and sugar.

There are lots of variations of chocolate based cakes, such as black forest gateau and a classic chocolate fudge cake, with their own unique additions. More people are looking for healthier versions of their favourite desserts, maybe with fewer calories.

Anne-Claude, a French mum-of-six, called Maman in the Cuisine on social media, shared her recipe for a cake made with just chocolate and carrots. The cake comes together with a few steps and doesn’t require any baking.

Speaking in a video on TikTok, she said: “Let’s make the two-ingredients chocolate cake, literally just made out of carrots and dark chocolate.” The mum then gave instructions on how to make it.

She starts by melting 260g of dark chocolate then boiling 430g of sliced carrots until cooked through. Next, Anne-Claude puts the carrots in a blender and adds the melted dark chocolate.

After this, she blends them together then pours the mixture into a 20cm diameter round cake tin. Lastly, she leaves it to set in the fridge for a couple of hours, or overnight.

The French mum then took it out of the fridge once it had set. She cut a slice and put it on a plate to do a taste test, noting: “It’s like a chocolate mousse cake.

“It is so good, you don’t taste the carrots. It’s very chocolatey, so delicious.” Anne-Claude’s TikTok video has garnered 238,900 views, 11,500 likes and more than 400 comments, at the time of writing.

One user said: “Just made it and you honestly can’t even taste the carrots. It’s brilliant a great way to give your kids pudding and actually get some veg down them I’d say.” Another added: “I’ve made this with stewed apples but I can see why carrots work, I’m definitely trying this!”

A third commented: “Looks like a fantastic kind of Chocolate Torte. If you choose the right chocolate it’s even vegan.”

A fourth suggested: “I would steam the carrots as you won’t lose any goodness or flavour. Also try it with beetroot.”

Someone else who tried Anne-Claude’s recipe shared what they thought: “I tried it twice. Tasted terrible. Such a waste of chocolate bars, carrots and time.”

Many people are familiar with the traditional carrot cake, a layered sponge cake made with spices and topped with cream cheese icing. Carrots contain plenty of nutrients and have several health benefits.

They are a good source of beta-carotene, fibre, vitamin K1, potassium and antioxidants, and are low in calories, according to Healthline. The health source also states that eating carrots has been linked to lower cholesterol levels and diets rich in carotenoids may help protect against several types of cancer, including prostate, colon and stomach cancers.
