Mike Tyson has abstained from sex and smoking marijuana ahead of his return to the boxing ring this summer. Tyson is now less than three months away from fighting Jake Paul, who is 30 years younger than him, and is already deep into his training program in preparation.
Tyson has revealed that he has already not smoked, nor had sex in six weeks while in training camp as he prepares himself to get in the best shape possible before stepping back into the ring.
The legendary heavyweight, who will be 58 by the day of the fight, has already been warned against accepting the showdown with Paul, being told he is putting his health at risk by agreeing to fight the YouTuber-turned-boxer, but he looks to be taking the fight extremely seriously – posting numerous training videos to his social media platforms.
And Tyson looks to be adopting the same strategy as he had throughout his prime. Tyson admitted that he abstained for over five years during his rise to the top of the heavyweight world in the 1980s and 90s.
He believed it would bring out his aggression and control in the boxing ring – and as he preapres to return, Tyson told Forbes: “I’m living my life disciplined now, so I’m fight disciplined now. In probably six weeks, I haven’t gotten high or had sex.
“It’s just discipline, it’s doing what you hate to do but doing it like I love it. I hate not being able to not to smoke but I’m doing it like I love it. I hate not being able to sleep with my wife but I’m doing it like I love it, because I want it I won’t do it.”
Both men had wanted their bout to be professional and fully sanctioned, but the Dallas board refused their proposal – with it now set to be an exhibition.
Paul will fight at heavyweight for the first time in his career, and he is already reportedly bulking up.
Legendary Shane Mosley, a champion in three different weight divisions, said on his YouTube channel: “I just saw Jake yesterday, he’s 230 pounds. He’s big, really big.
“He said that he feels as fast as was at 185lbs and he’s still young. He looked like he was comfortable in the weight, so I know that Mike Tyson has to fight in close. He likes to bob and weave and get close.”
