Michael Mosley shares 4 breakfast foods to remove from your diet for rapid weight loss

Michael Mosley recommended “cutting right down” on four foods that are often consumed in the morning if you want to lose weight quicker.

He advised: “Cut right down on sugar, sugary treats, drinks and desserts. That includes most breakfast cereals, which are usually full of sugar, as well as most commercial smoothies.”

Other things dieters should cut out completely are starchy carbs such as bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice.

Dr Mosley said that instead, slimmers should opt for healthier alternatives including whole grains like bulgur (cracked wheat), whole rye, wholegrain barley, wild rice and buckwheat.

He continued: “Brown rice is okay. Legumes such as lentils, kidney beans and chickpeas are healthy and filling too.” In general, the best option for those who want to lose weight faster is “switching to a low carbohydrate, Mediterranean-style diet”.

Why is sugar bad for you?

The NHS explained: “Eating too much sugar can contribute to people having too many calories, which can lead to weight gain.”

Health and wellbeing site Healthline said sugar can cause weight gain, especially sugar-sweetened beverages like juices as they are loaded with fructose.

“Consuming fructose increases your hunger and desire for food more than glucose, the main type of sugar found in starchy foods.”

Sugar consumption is believed to be a major cause of obesity and many chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes. Doctors recommend “limiting calories from added sugar to less than 10 percent per day”.
