Memorial Day 2023: What stores are open and closed?

September 16, 2022: American flags are seen at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on National POW/MIA Recognition Day on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner.

The holiday, which honors U.S. soldiers who died during service, is observed on May 29 this year. And because Memorial Day was declared a national holiday in 1971, people across the country will have the day off from work or school.

Shoppers planning to use the holiday to run errands will need to do some extra planning since a number of grocery stores, big box stores and restaurants will be running on reduced hours or closed on Monday.

Here’s a list of what will be open and closed on the national holiday.
