Meghan Markle is still working on her romantic blockbuster for Netflix, according to one of its senior executives.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bought the rights to Carley Fortune’s romance novel Meet Me at the Lake in 2023 for £3million through their production company, Archewell Productions, according to Penguin House.

Carley Fortune’s story focuses on Will and Fern, two strangers who meet in their twenties and fall in love and it continues until their thirties.

Since the announcement, no major updates have been made regarding the new series but now Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said the streaming giant “are happy to do” Meghan’s adaptation.

She said that while the film remains “in development”, it has not been greenlit for production, according to the Mail.

Asked by the outlet about whether the film is “definitely coming out”, the Netflix executive said: “It is in development. It is a great book, she had it and we are happy to do it.’

“And we have things in development. Everyone is excited about what is coming. I am really excited for her show [With Love, Meghan].”

According to Penguin House, Carley Fortune’s “breathtaking” novel is about how a random connection sends two strangers on a daylong adventure where they make a promise one keeps and the other breaks, with life-changing effects.

Elsewhere, Ms Bajaria revealed that the company will stand by Harry and Meghan and added that the duchess’s new show, With Love, Meghan – released on March 4 – will be a major hit.

She said: “We have Meghan’s new show coming out, which is great.

“It is such a great take on a lifestyle show and showcase for California, Montecito and nature. It really has great takeaways.

“I was like ‘oh my God, I want to really do that pasta.’ There’s really easy great takeaways on life. I am really excited about that coming out.”
