Meghan Markle is technically a princess and here’s why

When Meghan Markle resigned as a senior working royal, she agreed not to use her HRH title, but she is a Duchess, and if you look at the fine print, she is in fact a… Princess.

In 2018, she married Prince Harry, which made her Princess Henry of Wales. Why Henry? Because it’s Harry’s proper first name, and Harry is a nickname. Both Harry and Meghan retained their HRH titles His and Her Royal Highness, they just don’t use them.

But, now that Charles is King, William has become the Prince of Wales, and as a result, Meghan has dropped the “of Wales” and her title is Princess Henry.

According to Newsweek, the titles are not dependent on being a working royal. The titles are gifts from the late Queen and the only way to “lose” them would be if they were taken away, which is not going to happen, says royal author Tom Quinn.

Daily Express US spoke to royal expert Kinsey Schofield, who said US media outlets have been dropping the “Duke and Duchess” in headlines and referring to the Sussexes simply as “Harry and Meghan.”

Ms Schofield suggests the outlets have lost respect for the Sussexes, hence, referring to them so casually.

Harry and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, both have titles. Archie and Lilibet may be having this same conversation years from now.
