Meghan Markle 'insulted' by Queen Elizabeth's offer to make her 'feel comfortable'

The late Queen Elizabeth II reportedly offered Meghan Markle a black equerry to help her “feel comfortable” in Buckingham Palace.

According to Omid Scobie’s Endgame, the palace suggested that the late monarch’s Ghanaian-born household cavalry officer, Lieutenant Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, would be able to offer aid to Meghan.

They suggested they would be able to help the bi-racial actress adjust to her new royal duties.

Scobie wrote: “Though a charming and intelligent man, it stood out like a sore thumb to Meghan and her friends.”

This reportedly left Meghan “insulted” according to the US Sun, with Scobie noting that this was likely due to “lack of lack or other non-white staff” in “relevant senior roles.”

Omid added: “I doubt Kate was offered an equerry [for guidance].”

As per Scobie and previous reports, Meghan was initially assigned Lady Susan Hussey to help her adjust to her new royal duties.

However, the former Suits actress later “turned down the offer” to have Hussey as her helping hand.

The Palace Papers, released last year, also claimed that the Palace had a supposed disconnect with Meghan.

Author Tina Brown wrote: “The glaring but unspoken problem was that none of these experienced Palace hands were women of colour.

“As for the lady-in-waiting the Queen had offered for support, what on earth did the eighty-year-old Lady Susan Hussey have of use for a thirty-eight-year-old bi-racial American actress trying to navigate the treacherous Palace system?”

Hussey eventually stepped down from royal duties in 2022 after making “unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments” to a black domestic abuse campaigner.

The latest Scobie book claims come after an accidental misprint named two “racist royals” accused of making racist remarks towards Meghan and Harry’s son Archie.

Meghan claimed in a March 2021 sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey that unnamed individuals had raised concerns over the skin colour of her and Prince Harry’s then-unborn son, Archie.

Piers Morgan shared the names with the British public on his TalkTV show earlier this month.

Daily Express US has contacted Buckingham Palace and Meghan Markle for comment.
