Meghan Markle was given a five-word warning over her upcoming podcast series following the backlash she received after her latest show on Netflix. The Duchess of Sussex’s latest project for Netflix, With Love, Meghan, was released earlier this month but was mostly blasted by critics.

Britain’s media were mostly critical in their reviews, with The Guardian saying, “Kiss the Netflix deal goodbye! With Love, Meghan is so pointless it might be the Sussexes’ last TV show,” while the Telegraph gave it two stars and said: “It is, to put it kindly, insane. An exercise in narcissism, filled with extravagant brunches, celebrity pals and business plugs.” But even US media gave With Love, Meghan a negative review, with Hollywood bible Variety saying the new show is a “Montecito ego trip not worth taking.” Despite the scathing reviews, the show was included in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Shows list, coming in last with 2.6 million views and was even renewed for a second season due to drop this autumn.

Now, ahead of the duchess’s new podcast show Confessions of a Female Founder, which will launch next month, a royal expert warned her that despite the backlash, “she has to keep trying”.

Royal expert Hugo Vickers told The Sun: “The other one [podcast] wasn’t a success, and this one may or may not be.

“She has to keep trying. I mean, it is possible that if she does enough podcasts, one of them will eventually work.

“But this one doesn’t look terribly exciting to me.”

Meghan hosted Archetypes for 12 episodes before her and Prince Harry’s deal with Spotify came to an end.

Last year, she struck a new contract with podcast distributor Lemonada Media.
