Meghan Markle delighted royal fans over the weekend as she spoke publicly about her two children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, along with her husband Prince Harry, 40, have been careful to shield their children from the public spotlight. However, Meghan could not help but mention the couple’s two children over the weekend.
During an impromptu speech by the duchess at the opening ceremony of The Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday, Meghan described her children with a three-word comment.
She said they were “very sweet” and “excited” children.
Introducing her husband onto the stage, the duchess said: “It is my entire pleasure and complete honour to introduce to the stage my husband, the father of our very sweet and excited children who are cheering you on from California, Prince Harry, founder of The Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex.”
Despite speculation the couple would bring Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet with them to Canada, this has not the case.
Instead, the children are in California and reportedly watching the events of the games from home.
The decision comes after Harry and Meghan have, over the years, attempted to keep their children out of the public eye.
Despite sharing some clips of them over the years, the duke and duchess have been careful to not show their children’s faces, often including photos and videos which have the children’s backs to the camera.
It is believed this is for safety reasons, with a source having previously told PEOPLE: “Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats.
“He wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm.”
