As reported by The Daily Mail, just hours after the show was released, The Mail’s Liz Jones called the new season “staged, fake and dull”, especially as it isn’t even filmed at Meghan’s own home.
Although critical of the show, Jones does praise Meghan individually, saying that her actions in the show are “not an act”. She wrote: “What I love about Meghan – aside from the fact she makes a pressed forget-me-not necklace for Guy, her beagle (RIP) – is she seems genuinely earnest: it really is not an act.”
Another critic who seemed underwhelmed by season two of Meghan’s Netflix show was Hilary Rose, who wrote in The Times that the show is “baffling”.
After criticising some of the creative activities Meghan did in the show, such as bookbinding and wrapping gifts in a special way, Rose wrote: “With Love, Meghan is baffling. It occupies the sweet spot where irrelevant meets intolerable.”
Rose continued: “It’s like an advert for somewhere we’ll never go and aren’t invited, an ego trip in a sun hat that boils down to this: Meghan is pretty and likes roast chicken and flower arranging.”
While many critics also slated the show, the duchess did win over some people. In an opinion piece in Express.co.uk, royal reporter Lauren Welch said this season felt “more rounded and wholesome” compared to the first.
By speaking about the UK and inviting UK guests on the show, Welch believes Meghan “may just have unlocked the key to success”.
All eight episodes of “With Love, Meghan” season two have been uploaded to Netflix today (August 26).
