Meghan Markle was once “considered the next Diana” by royal observers – but the reality of her transformation with the public was laid bare by an insider.
Daily Mail editor Charlotte Griffiths told GB News about the relationship between Princess Kate and the Duchess of Sussex as Mark Dolan compared Meghan to Princess Diana
Mr Dolan said: “This is why I don’t buy the Meghan Markle sob story about the British press. I have got many friends in Fleet Street.
“When Meghan Markle arrived on the scene, Fleet Street was delighted because they found Kate charming but a bit dull. They looked at Meghan, and thought, there’s our new Diana.
“She was the one that was storyboarded for all of the fame and glory.”
The editor explained: “I don’t know if we thought she was the new Diana, but we thought she was going to be this amazing, glamorous figure.
“She made more headlines because she was fresh meat and that is how it goes. I think it probably is of her own making because she just couldn’t give it time.”
Meghan sensationally quit her royal duties four years ago, when alongside her husband Prince Harry she opted to move to the US.
The couple have since endured varying levels of success stateside.
While Harry’s memoir Spare sold millions, it tore apart his relationships with members of the Royal Family – relationships that were already reeling after he took part in various tell-all interviews.
Meghan, herself, was left disappointed, too, after her podcast was brutally axed by audio giant Spotify after just 12 episodes.
