Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could have ‘sorted’ Royal Family Endgame row with one move

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have “sorted” a row with the Royal Family caused by the release of Omid Scobie’s new book, Endgame, according to a royal expert.

Royal expert Richard Kay said: “This whole scandal because that’s what it is, it is a scandal, could have been sorted with a word from that couple in California.

Speaking on Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential, he continued: “If they had distanced themselves from the Scobie book and said something.

“Said something to offer an olive branch to their family, they would have dissipated the row, massively.”

Omid Scobie’s bombshell book, Endgame, was released on November 28 and fanned the flames of an already fraught relationship between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family.

Daily Mail’s royal editor, Rebecca English, also speaking on the programme, said: “I think the only thing we ever heard was a briefing to a very Sussex-friendly paper, was that sources close to Meghan said she ‘never intended for the names to be made public’. I mean, it’s not very strong. It’s a pretty weak explanation.”

Mr Scobie’s book dominated headlines this month after a version of his book published in the Netherlands named two senior royals who allegedly held discussions about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child, Prince Archie.

The book was quickly pulled from the shelves but the allegation sent shockwaves among royal watchers around the globe.

Confronted with claims he had put the names into an earlier manuscript of the book, Mr Scobie initially said he had never named them.

However, the author backtracked stating on Twitter that an “early and uncleared text” was given to the publisher in the Netherlands.

Writing in a column for inews column, he wrote: “Unbeknownst to me at the time, early and uncleared text was provided to the Dutch publisher in order for them to start work on the translation, with the understanding that their translation would be updated to reflect the final version of the book I officially submitted.”

He added: “To be clear, the only publisher I worked directly with was the one covering the US and UK.”
