McDonald’s has announced a change to one of its menu items for the first time in 50 years, with the new burger becoming available for customers from the morning of July 1. From 11am tomorrow, McDonald’s fans will be able to enjoy a Double Filet-o-Fish at any of the fast food chain’s many restaurants across the country. The new product is a twist on an already popular McDonald’s menu item, and opinions are split on it.
The new burger will feature two Pollock fish patties in crispy breadcrumbs instead of just one. It also comes with melted cheese and creamy tartar sauce in a steamed bun. While McDonald’s introduces new and limited edition menu items every so often, this one will be a permanent addition and will be available in restaurants for the foreseeable future. It is one of a number of new menu items being introduced in McDonald’s, along with the new Big Arch Burger.
The new Double Filet-o-Fish will be available to those who use the McDonald’s app for just £2 on launch day. After that, it costs £5.29 on its own, or if you buy it as part of a meal, it is £7.39.
People were split on the new McDonald’s menu item, with some people slating it on social media before it has even been served at restaurants across the country. One X user wrote: “Double the disappointment that it doesn’t even taste like fish.”
Another wrote: “The price isn’t worth it for its size.” A third wrote: “It is too expensive.”
However, others were more optimistic about the new menu item and some even beamed with excitement. One person commented: “Ahhhh!! I’m so happy!!!! Best news ever!! Going to order two Filet-O-Fish now and turn it into a Big Fish Mac, to celebrate! The 1st of July is too far away.”
Another wrote: “Beyond excited for this. Finally!”
The news seemed to create huge excitement with certain people. In recent days, the Filet-O-Fish Facebook Society of 2012 received close to 3,000 new members as the news of the new burger spread.
Other new menu items to try in McDonald’s include the Cheesy McCrispy burger, Halloumi fries, the Toffee Crisp McFlurry and the Toffee Apple Pie. Meanwhile, other items will leave the menu of UK McDonald’s restaurants, including Cheesy Garlic Bread Dippers, Lotus Biscoff McFlurry and the Steakhouse Stack and the McSpicy x Frank’s RedHot burger.
