Man Utd star Harry Maguire in danger of missing FA Cup final as injury update released

Manchester United star Harry Maguire is at risk of missing the FA Cup final through injury. A muscle injury is set to keep Maguire on the sidelines for three weeks, with United facing arch-rivals Manchester City at Wembley in 20 days’ time.

The England international is reported to have suffered the problem during training. His Premier League campaign is over, with the final round of matches taking place on May 19, and he will be in a race against time to face City in the FA Cup.

A United statement read: “Harry Maguire has sustained a muscle injury that will keep him out for about three weeks.”

United boss Erik ten Hag will likely provide an update when his side face Crystal Palace on Monday. The Red Devils travel to Selhurst Park with a spate of defensive injuries that has not been helped at all by Maguire’s setback.

Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Willy Kambwala, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are all injured. None of those seven are expected to return to face Palace, leaving Ten Hag with a major dilemma, particularly at centre-back where there are now no recognised senior options.

Casemiro has played in the position alongside Maguire in recent weeks but the Brazilian will now prepare for a new partner. Eighteen-year-old academy star Louis Jackson has been an unused substitute in matches over the past month, and could be set for a senior bow if Ten Hag opts for youth.

In further bad news for United, Ten Hag confirmed that captain Bruno Fernandes is at risk of missing his first Premier League match of the season. The playmaker has been seen wearing a protective cast on his right arm.

The Dutchman said: “We had an issue with Bruno, so he is a doubt for Monday, but he will fight to be a part of this game. Never rule him out for any game, and he is giving his best to be available.”
