Manchester United concluded their positive pre-season tour of the United States by becoming the second winners of the Premier League Summer Series. Ruben Amorim’s side were not as impressive as in their mauling of Bournemouth but showed real glimpses of quality as they played out a 2-2 draw with Everton in Atlanta.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot after James Tarkowski fouled Amad inside the area. Iliman Ndiaye equalised with a back-post tap-in before the break, but Mason Mount came off the bench to produce a curling finish to restore the lead.
Everton drew level again on 74 minutes via a freak own-goal as Amad’s clearance rebounded off Ayden Heaven while Fernandes and Ndiaye scrapped on the halfway line.

Altay Bayindir: 3
United have a real problem in the goalkeeper department. Andre Onana is unconvincing (and injured), while Altay Bayindir fills you with even less confidence.
Leny Yoro: 7
Primed for a monumental season. One of three players to start every single pre-season tour match. So calm on the ball and assertive in the tackle.
Matthijs de Ligt: 6
Defended well in the first half but faced a tough battle against Everton’s pace when he moved to the right after Harry Maguire’s introduction.
Luke Shaw: 6
Wasn’t as assured as he was against Bournemouth in United’s sloppiest defensive performance of pre-season.
Amad: 7
Made an absolute nuisance of himself with his twinkle toes. Drew the foul for United’s first-half penalty and offers a serious attacking threat from wing-back.
Manuel Ugarte: 2
A disastrous outing. Lost possession like he was getting paid to do so, including for Everton’s first goal, and was very fortunate to last 72 minutes. Amorim’s system won’t work if one of his players can’t keep up with the tempo, especially in midfield.
Kobbie Mainoo: 6
Unlike his midfield partner, he didn’t look out of place in the middle of a sea of technical quality in United’s side. Like Fernandes, he needs a more defensively astute player next to him.
Diogo Dalot: 5
Playing on the left to accommodate Amad, and not too effective. That position is Patrick Dorgu’s.
Bryan Mbeumo: 7
An impressive first run out. Sharp on the ball and was already showing a great understanding between his dynamic attacking partners. Much more to come.
Bruno Fernandes: 6
Characteristically cold from the penalty spot, but didn’t offer too much to shout about. Was in a shoving contest with Ndiaye when Everton equalised for a second time.
Matheus Cunha: 7
His selection down the middle could be a hint that he will start the season as United’s No. 9 if the pursuit of Benjamin Sesko doesn’t go to plan. Enjoyed some menacing link-up with Amad.
