Manchester United have identified their next priority position after addressing Ruben Amorim’s attack in the summer transfer window, according to reports. The Red Devils are preparing for a busy business period to stop the rot after suffering their worst season in over half a century.
Amorim will likely require player sales to fund the number of signings he needs to transform his side’s fortunes next term. However, United reportedly believe they have the budget to upgrade the Portuguese tactician’s options with two attacking signings. According to the Manchester Evening News, there is optimism surrounding Matheus Cunha’s planned arrival from Wolves.
The Brazilian has a £62.5million release clause and is said to be in advanced talks over a switch to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has been identified as the prime target to replace Rasmus Hojlund as Amorim’s starting striker.
The 22-year-old is available for just £30m after Ipswich’s relegation back down to the Championship, although there is strong rival interest elsewhere in the Premier League.
It’s claimed that United want to make up to four key signings to spark drastic improvement after a shambolic domestic campaign.
And the report adds that a midfielder is also among Amorim’s priorities once he has addressed the attacking frailties.
United are expected to release Christian Eriksen once his contract expires in July – along with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof.
Meanwhile, Casemiro is entering the final year of his deal, and Kobbie Mainoo hasn’t yet agreed to extend his terms.
Amorim is expected to target an energetic midfielder who can meet the demands of his 3-4-3 system, though concrete links have been scarce thus far.
Any further significant arrivals will reportedly rely on player sales, and United are said to be aiming to break double figures for outgoings.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia are currently out on loan and are expected to leave the club permanently in the summer.
Previous reports have suggested that most first-team players are in the shop window as United look to improve finances and adhere to financial regulations.
Casemiro and Hojlund join Alejandro Garnacho among the senior players who face uncertain futures in M16 amid questions over their suitability for Amorim’s plans.
But while exits are an important factor, the 40-year-old will want to ensure he adds to his squad as early as possible with what looks likely to be reinforcements in attack and midfield.
