Tyrell Malacia has expressed his relief at securing a move to PSV Eindhoven from Manchester United, as the struggling Eredivisie giants give him the chance to kick-start his career. After being sidelined for the entire 2023/24 season due to injury, the left-back has conveyed a hint of dissatisfaction with how things were managed under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
With limited Premier League playing time, totalling just 99 minutes this term, he’s eager to get more games back in his homeland.
Speaking to club media following confirmation of his loan move on Tuesday – after an earlier Benfica deal fell through – Malacia seemed to swipe at his former boss cheekily.
“Finally playing good football again,” Malacia said upon returning to the Netherlands three years after leaving Feyenoord for United.
The Dutch international defender is looking forward to becoming a regular fixture in Peter Bosz’s set-up, potentially lining up behind ex-Spurs winger Ivan Perisic.
Outlining his road to recovery and the personal growth he’s experienced, Malacia stated: “I’m happy to be here. In every tough period there are also positive elements and in this case that is that I have become much stronger physically and mentally.
“I have more patience, am more mature, know my body better and things like that. I’m ready to pop and hopefully win several prizes with PSV.”
PSV are flying high at the summit of the Eredivisie, boasting an impressive tally of 68 goals in just 21 league matches.
They’ve also punched their ticket to the Champions League play-off round, setting up a tantalising clash with Italian giants Juventus, with the victor potentially facing either Arsenal or Inter Milan in the last 16.
Malacia’s switch comes hot on the heels of United’s £29million capture of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
The 20-year-old sensation is tipped to take over the left wing-back spot in Amorim’s team, following Malacia’s experimental run in the position during several Europa League fixtures.
“Patrick is a really exciting talent; his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability and work-rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad,” gushed United’s technical director Jason Wilcox about the fresh recruit, who has penned a deal until 2030.
“Patrick has had a superb start to his career, and at the age of just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team.
“Patrick is the latest exciting young player that we have bought into the club.
“We believe that each of these talents has world-class potential and the ability to play a key role in achieving the success that everyone at Manchester United is striving for.”
