Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has been welcomed back into the first-team setup. Malacia made it clear he wanted to quit United during the summer transfer window and was widely labelled as part of the ‘bomb squad’ by journalists, alongside Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony.
However, clubs showed little enthusiasm for signing Malacia, and a potential switch to Elche fell through on deadline day. Malacia was registered in United’s Premier League squad, with Ruben Amorim explaining: “He is returning with contact with the ball with the Under-21s, then we will see.”
Following sessions with the academy setup, Malacia has now been brought back into the senior group, opening up the prospect of him featuring in a Premier League matchday squad once more.
The Manchester Evening News claim it was always the intention to bring Malacia back into the first-team fold.
During January, Malacia was loaned out to PSV Eindhoven and managed only six starts across all competitions throughout that spell.
The Dutch outfit chose not to exercise their option to make the move permanent.
Malacia’s United career has been derailed by a knee problem, which necessitated two separate operations.
The 26 year old initially battled through the issue during the closing stages of the 2022/2023 campaign.
Injections were administered to help him get through matches.
Malacia subsequently went under the knife, but needed additional surgery following complications with the initial procedure.
Following 517 days out of action, Malacia returned to action for the U21s against Huddersfield last November.
